Reborn dolls in the news - is that how you found our website?
Just very recently in the past year there has been an explosion of interest in this unusual art form that has snowballed to include appearances on Dr.Phil, 2020 and ABC News as well as a documentary called My Fake Baby that was shot in the UK. While all of the media attention has resulted in greater awareness of our artform, it has also grossly misrepresented the doll collectors.

One highly publicized incident this past summer police in Queensland, Australia smashed a car window to rescue what seemed like an unconscious baby only to find it was a reborn doll. The police stated that the doll was "incredibly lifelike" and that the people there who thought a baby was actually dying were frightened by the incident. This has actually happened numerous times to both reborn doll collectors and to reborn artists who have left their dolls in the car. Many artists now will leave a note on the doll stating that it is such and not a baby trapped in the car. This certainly speaks to the realism of the dolls!You can read the article here.

In December 2008 an episode of the Dr. Phil show entitled "Obsessions" discussed the topic of reborning and Dr.Phil concluded that reborn dolls are not an obsessive behaviour.View Dr.Phil's site here.

In January of 2008, the Channel 4 series, My Fake Baby, explored the lives of women who collect the lifelike baby dolls.This was highly sensationalized but resulted in increasing awareness of our art form.

In January of 2009, an ABC News show and 2020 described both a bit about the manufacturing process and the emotional interaction of reborn dolls and their owners.See the episode hereIt focused more about the attachment and mothering aspect of the doll collectors.

There is an ABC News article called Not Child's Play - I feel like I have a real baby which again provided the reborn doll community some attention.

While reborn dolls in the news will likely continue as there are as many people who love the art as there are people who hate it ( it seems to be an either/or) it is the aim of this site to show the art for what it is - art! Simple, 3 dimensional art that you can hold, or display or just marvel in the realism.

As more stories come out, and more local papers and magazines provide coverage, it is our hope that they show all aspects of the art, not just the unusual ones to get a story.
