Featured Reborn Artist Jenn SkidgelHere is my interview with featured reborn artist Jenn Skidgel of Bunker Babies NurseryPlease enjoy looking at her lovely artwork. Jenn is the winner of the Reborn Baby of the Month contest for July 2009.
1.) How long have you been reborning? It was two years this past May2.) What made you interested in the art at first?Stumbling across them on ebay I was totally fascinated by those realistic babies. I bought one but the pics were better than the doll in real life so I wanted to try my hand at creating a reborn. I bought my supplies (plus a few more that I wouldnt even think of using these days) and started. I was very proud of it then but I look back and I wish I wouldnt have sold it as it was pretty bad by my standards today. I did take my daughters reborn baby we bought and re-reborned it, she is so pretty and my daughter loves her.
3) What is your favorite aspect of reborning ?When the hair is all done and I get to cut and style it, I also love to put them together and get them dressed It is so fun. I actually love to do the photo session also.4) Where do you usually sell your dolls?I have sold a few local, a few custom orders, some doll forums but mostly ebay.
5) Any tips for beginner artists?Dont be afraid to try new techniques. Really study artists work that you admire and if you really are serious about being the best you can be spend time on the forums learning others techniques. What helped my sales alot is this advice plus a very nice camera that shows the details of your hard work.
6) Any memorable/funny stories from customers or personal experience with your dolls?I had a craft show that I entered 10 babies in and they were a hit! The whole town was practically there, it was before christmas so everybody was looking for an original gift. I had a woman just fall in love with one and wanted it, a little while later her husband snuck back and put half down to hold the baby, got my card and came back that week to pick him up and suprise her for christmas. He told me later on how she jumped up and down and just loved it. It made me very happy. I ended up selling every one of those babies in that craft show. I have a lot of customers that still write to me and send pictures of the babies I have gotten to know alot of them on a personal level, they are people that I call friends, it brings me alot of joy and am so glad I am doing it. I will never stop, I love it.7) What is the name and web address of your nursery? Ebay ID?My website is Bunker Babies Nursery and my ebay ID is SKIDS111 ( That was my husbands idea when we first set up the account LOL)Helpful Reborning LinksDoll Collecting|
