Reborn Artist April Yap - featured doll artist for February 2009 ~Interview~

My name is April Yap and I am from Knoxville Tennessee.

How long have you been reborning?

I have been reborning for 1 year now.

What made you interested in the art at first?

I have always been artistic but I could never find that one art form that made me feel like I accomplished something when I was finished.

I always had a love for babies. I was introduced to reborning through a friend who saw a tv special on them, I instantly knew that's what I was supposed to do. I feel that with every baby I create I am recreating the pure innocence we all adore and at the same time blessing other people.

What is your favorite aspect of reborning ?

There is a awe that I feel each time I see the creation come together.

Where do you usually sell your dolls?

I sell some on ebay and on my website.

Any tips for beginner artists?

For those who are new to reborning I think the best tip I can give is, if you don't love the sculpt at first sight you shouldn't attempt to reborn it because finishing it becomes a chore and not a joy.

Any memorable/funny stories from customers or personal experience with your dolls?

I recieved a email from a mother, she had won a baby for her daughter's 10 th birthday. Her daughter had left her a note that evening telling her how much she loved the doll and wanted it more than anything and that she understood that it was a lot of money but if she didn't win it that would be ok because she understood and she even told her exactly what time the auction ended.

The mother said that her daughter fell in love as soon as she saw my baby and she had to get it for her even if she had to work 2 jobs so that she could make her little girl happy. So being a mother I could understand what she felt and that one really touched me.
