shading
by: Judymae

I used a slightly darker shade and a cosmetic sponge to add a little variance BEFORE my last layer of skin tone just as I did the with the creases so they wouldn't appear to be on the top and would have a natural look. When I put it on I pouced it out feathering it so it wouldn't look like a blob of darker color and this way it also looked more natural when the last shade of skin tone was added. You also want to be careful with your blushing as their feet and so forth don't show blushing like a caucasion baby would. I dud VERY little and pounced it out so it hardly showed.
It's hard to explain so I hope you understood and I was a help not a hinder.
Here is my email I can send you more photo's if Tavian so you can see if you'd like.

yes....tips please

Your baby is gorgeous!!
I started my first AA baby and it already has about 3 or 4 coats of base now. Before I start to go darker, I would like to know how to keep her from looking all one dimensional. When I look at real babies pictures on the net, it appears that they are darker on some areas of their faces and that..say the forehead and chin and cheek areas are lighter. Any suggestions how to blend this in BEFORE the actual blushing steps begin? I surely don't want her to look spray painted like a regular play doll. So far all the pouncing hasn't produced any differnet shadings, even though the last coat I've done was a shade darker and aparsely pounces to give some dimension.
Thanks if you're willing to share any secrets or tips.

tips

Thank you for the wonderful comments.
I used a lot of actual picturess of babies and started with a light ethnic color and went darked with each layer so I could have the feet and hands done lighter, I stopped with them on the 2nd layer of color, also did the wrinkles and creases on the next to last layer of color. The hair I died my own and used ethnic curly and curly. My grandbabies had straighter hair on the sides and curly mohawks, I loved it!
