Newborn Dolls as Therapy Babies
Reborn Dolls are providing hope and healing for Alzheimers patients
Newborn dolls may be used for more than just cherished collectors items. Some reborn doll artists are finding welcoming homes for their
reborn babies in the arms of the elderly.
Lifelike dolls created by reborn artists are finding new ways to bring joy to women in the later stages of life.
Instead of just sitting pretty on a display
shelf, many reborn artists are selling or donating some of their reborn dolls to homes for the elderly with great results.
Because these reborn newborn dolls are so realistic looking, right down to the tiniest detail, many patients with Alzheimers cradle and rock them just as they would real babies, with
none of the dangers of caring for a real infant. These realistic baby dolls seem to have a very calming effect on patients who are
in an agitated state.
Many reborn doll artists have written in to our website in response to the 'fake baby' issue and felt strongly that this was a unique case - when
newborn dolls were used for therapy dolls. They tell stories of many female, elderly patients either suffering from dementia
or alzheimer's, who still believe they are young, or who are confused about what stage of life they are in . Being given a reborn doll to care for brings them back to a happier time in their
life. Holding a newborn doll makes them feel needed and loving and brings back memories of being a mother and homemaker.
My own grandmother, while not suffering from dementia, was dying of cancer. For months she hung on to her reborn doll. She said it made
her feel less alone and she often spoke of how much she loved to hold a baby. She dressed it and wrapped it up, combed it's hair and hugged it for comfort. She kept it with her in the palliative care home and often both
staff and other patients would come to 'hold the baby'. She held it right up until her death.
If you are a reborn doll artist you may wish to consider approaching local nursing homes in your area and bringing along a doll or two
to show to the staff and patients. You may be pleasantly surprised by the reaction you'll get. Your newborn dolls can bring
some joy and peace to those at the end stages of life.
