by Rhonda
(North Carolina)

Hello, I am just getting started and want to reborn a baby doll. Just getting started. Wanting to know what kind of oven I need to use? I would like to know what kind of oven I need to buy. I really don't want to put a lot of money into an oven, just in case reborning dolls is something that I may not continue to do. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you, Rhonda

WHAT KIND OF OVEN
by: Sandy

I would be scared to death to use anything but my kitchen stove! The temperature needs to be pretty exact. Be sure to use an oven thermometer to check it first. If you use anything else, I would use a kit you don't mind ruining!

I used my regular kitchen oven until I was baking every day and decided that it may not be good for health reasons.....so I purchased a small apartment size electric stove and installed it in the kitchenette of my studio. These are available new from Lowes between
$300 to $500 dollars but I watched on craigslist for about 6 weeks and finally found one for $40.

I had to do a lot of cleaning on it and replaced the drip pans under the elements (about $25) and it is ready to go. Also will work well when I am working in the studio to warm up food. ....especially seminar weekends in the winter time.....a large pot of soup keeping warm on the top burners while we work.

Hope this helps.

My oven dilemma
by: www.reborndollsbydonna.com

I am so glad that this question is being posed. I have decided to not use my home oven. I am sure that it is fine to use it, it is just my personal decision at this point in my life. So, what so I use? I have heard of convection ovens, turkey roasters, or maybe buying an inexpensive oven to install in the garage perhaps? IDK. Of course, I want to go with the least expensive option so I guess that my choices are convection or turkey roaster? I have heard of using and have seen pics of others using turkey roasters but I can't find them any more. Hmmm. So, maybe I should look into convection ovens? Well, they can be pricey and I want one to hold a whole kit.

So, what brand and models do you all use?

Thanks! I can't wait to here your answers!

Your regular oven does work but make sure you get a thermometer to make sure the temp is accurate or a convection oven from wal mart is around $80 and can be used for other purposes if reborning does pan out for you. There are also air dry paints available as well which is another option. Hope this helps. Smiles, Tara
