Hi I am new to this and need a lot of help-I am really wanting to do a reborn doll for my 5 granddaughters but don't have a lot of money to invest-I ordered a reborn doll kit from one company but when it arrived it had no instructions with it neither did it look like the pic(which I'm sure it's up to me to make it look that way)it is so tiny i can't believe the cost for that thing but is there a way or product to paint the reborn dolls without having to use heat and will they look as good? if someone has other web sites to get kits that are not pricey please send me the info!this is very important that i get these reborn dolls done for these girls-(when I'm no longer with them they will have the babies that i made with love and always have something special from me)thanks

Did any of this help you at all? I also should have added that on Bountiful Denise Pratt Has a video that is very inexpensive and it's pretty good and I learned stuff on there that has helped me a lot. She will paint one of bountiful (her sculpt Paisley) from start to finish in a way that is very clear. Also shows rooting the doll. Let us know what you have decided

You can get an excellent DVD on beginning reborning from Secrist Dolls called "The Art of Newborning, Beginner Classroom DVD". Tells you and shows you exactly what to do, step by step.

Less expensive kits
by: Denise

I agree, Bountifulbaby.com is the best place to get high quality low-cost kits. As a beginner you do not want to pay the high prices. I know from experience that I have messed up some kits. The nice thing about Bountiful Baby is they also sell each piece as well so if you mess up you can buy just what you need. I use the Genesis heat set paints. Some place on the site they offer tutorials. If you just do a search for reborn babies on youtube.com you will be amazed at the number of tutorials there. You can also take classes at angelsinwaiting.com. There is a charge but excellent lessons. Hope this helps.

kits

Actually probably the least costly kits are the ones that you will find at www.bountifulbabies.com And always take a look at what the doll looks like without the paint. If you click on the picture, you should get more pics and then you will see what it looks like. Oh..read about how big it is...maybe 20 inches and sometimes they will give the size of the head. I usually don't like to go over 19ich. That's plenty big for what you are doing it for. Pictures ALWAYS look fabulous. They have top notch artist doing them. As far as paint..I like the heat set ones, but you can also use a heat tool or gun with the paints. I just have a counter top convection that is a double decker and is pretty large, but not expensive under 80.00. There are acrylic paints, but I haven't tried them. There is some that are not that expensive called Luminere (I'll have to look it up. They came with directions, but are not that intense. Bountiful has a free file you can douwnlaod teaching an easy genesis paint application or they will send you a copy in hand for 5.00. Then there is The LCD paints that you can get through www.dolldreams.net They also have a Tutorial on their site showing how to use them. You can also go to You tube (www.youtube.com) and put in painting reborn doll in the search and you should come up with a lot. Here's the Lum. paint:

Also you can sign up at any Forums and they will help you anyway they can.
Reborners Anonymous is a good one. just put it in your yahoo search or google and you will find it. If you have anymore questions email me at
avivaloveshim@yahoo.com Good luck. Viv
