My fake babies helped me to finally be a mom

After several years of struggle to become pregnant, I finally gave up, and had a deep depression. I also made dolls and they meant so much to me. To cuddle and dress up fine. At a point I had an exhibition in my bank and some of the dolls were in a pram I had borrowed. One of the bank assistants asked if I didn't stroll the streets with my beautiful babies in that pram, because if she had those, then she would.
That made me think what a good advertising that would be for my business.

So I packed up my welcome home emily in nice warm clothes as it was winter, packed her well into a beautiful pram I owned, and the next few years I strolled the streets with my baby. I didn't keep it a secret that it was a doll, but the explanations I gave depended on which mood I was in.

Sometimes I would say I had the doll with me to advertise for my dollmaking business, other times I would tell it like it was, that I couldn't have real babies but instead of sitting home being depressed about it, I started doing this and I really felt it helped on my mood.

And blimey - sorry my language - four years ago I was suddenly pregnant. And now I have two wonderful and beautiful daughters. Katrine who is three and a half years old, and Laura who is 8 months old.

You often see when barren couples adopt a child or get a dog, suddenly the woman gets pregnant after all... and it happened to me. My love for my babies and having that void filled, made me relax so my body finally accepted to carry a real child after all.

So when I meet a barren couple, I tell them my story, and I know for a fact that at least two families have done like me, and one of those families now have a son, and another is expecting in November. So it really IS therapeutic to have these reborn dolls.
