Aug 04, 2009 Rating It's Not A Fake Baby, It's A Real Doll by: Joann I totally agree with this Blog. I have an online friend who reborns dolls, so I understand the work and the intense hours it takes to create these beautiful babies. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the women who collect them. They are simply enjoying a hobby, and as far as I am concerned, they're not hurting anyone. They don't need therapy or a so-called "reality check" just because they'd rather collect newborn baby dolls than cars, stamps, teddy bears, or stuffed animals. Remember Octomom, the woman with 14 children, 8 of them being octuplets? I think she's a perfect example of a woman who should have collected a reborn baby doll, don't you think, if she was that desperate to have a baby? As for me, I'm developmentally disabled and will be turning 42 in about three weeks, and I live at home with my parents and don't have the transportation to work or get out much because I can't drive. A reborn baby doll isn't for me because of the cost, amount of care and proper handling they require, and the fact that I don't have the required bank account to use eBay or Pay Pal. Otherwise, I would have ordered one from my reborn doll artist friend. However, since I like anatomically correct play babies with realistic newborn features better, I recently ordered online two newborn little girls, a 21" Berjusa Original Newborn Baby and a 22" open-eyed Sunshine Berenguer, both of which may be retired soon, and I should be meeting them both sometime this month. And because I can't get out much, and I live in an area too far from town, having these babies will give me something fun to do because I can actually play with them and not have to leave them on display somewhere like I would a reborn baby doll, which is often very delicate and cannot be used as a toy. And once again, this is just a hobby, and contrary to what a lot of our critics seem to think (one of them being my dad, who thinks that I'm obsessed and that I think my dolls are real babies), I am not out of touch with reality, and neither do I need therapy. And so what if I'd rather have a doll than a real human baby, right?
