Is there a tool to insert the eyes in a reborn doll?

Hello, I would be so very grateful for some advice, I'm entering this fabulous world of reborning and have got bought my first reborn kit, the neck hole is very small and would be impossible to place the eyes in with my fingers, also just below the eye socket opening on the inside of the mold are two little raised mounds that sit neatly there, they seem that they will get in the way of trying to place the eyes in. I'm not sure what their purpose is,are they for resting the eyes on or should I cut them out first. I thank you in advance for any help that I have. all good wishes from Linda

Pen pal and ethnic dolls

I am also just entering this hobby of re-borning and would love to have some "pen'pals" who are more experienced and willing to share it with me. I have done two dolls previously, but put a wig on one and have done nothing with the hair for the other. I want to learn to root hair and have bought two "practice dolls" at garage sales. The question I have for now is what kind of hair to I get for a little black baby.....and where do I get it? I have Whitney by Tinneke Janssens and am scared to death that I will mess up on her. My e-mail is: auntiefreeze650x@cox.net if someone is willing to communicate with me. Thanks! Elaine

Inserting eyes
by: Jen

I always have just put my lashes on first so I didnt get the glue on the eye itself ( that is only my method)
I cut a small opening in the back of the mounds and put the eye in that way, if I cant get my hand in there I take a pair of hemostats and barely grab the edge of the eye with them and insert it that way. If it is too big for the opening, cut the slit further.
After I get it in I set them, I close the flap and glue them from behind with a glue gun.
After that glue is dry I turn the head facing up and put some aileens paper glaze over the eye and pop all of the bubbles if any and that way it makes those eyes stay where you want them, like a glue, and makes the eyes look moist like a real eye.

I now always put in eyes from the front then I know they are secure, but as someone has already said you have to make the vinyl warm so that it gives, I use my hair dryer moving it about the eye area, Pat

Inserting the eyes
by: Lisa

If I'm understanding you correctly, you want to know what the mounds inside the head and behind the eye sockets are for? They are where you slide your eyes into if you are inserting them from the back. Without seeing the head, it's hard to advise whether to insert from the front or the back. You can insert from the front, just make sure the vinyl is warm, then insert the eyes, set the eyes, and when the vinyl cools it will help keep the eyes in place. If you are inserting from the back, you need to cut a slit into the mounds so you can slide the eyes in that way. DO NOT cut off the mounds because it will make the eyes extremely vulnerable to dislodging. If the eyes seem loose, you may have to add some filling to help keep the eyes in place, then secure them with glue. If the eyes are bigger than the socket, you may have to make the slit in the mounds bigger or make an X in the mound to get the eye in and secure it. Only other suggestion I can offer is to find video tutorials on the net to help you learn the technique..... and have patience :)
