How to fix skin shine on a reborn doll?

by Angie Mac
(Norfolk)

I bought a lovely reborn baby boy last year,he has always been shiny which is a shame, because my other babies are not like this,I realize this can be through over handling, being over baked, etc, can this be rectified in any way?

Intresting :)

Ok~ that makes sense... :) I never heard that step before. I have been reborning for about 3 years... LOL~ so I am sure you know what you are doing. It seemed odd since the matte is so thick.. you know. Didnt know how well that would mix. I was concerned about a newbie not mixing or thining enough...eeekkkk... you know... that would be a mess. LOL~
Do you have any of your babies on here??? I would love to see your results with this method :) Misty

I can understand what you're saying, on only using thin layers, or omitting them all together, but I always mix all ingredients together thoroughly, making sure only using my paint & varnish in a thin amount, and only on a wedge sponge, pouncing. I've gotten wonderful results in this manner, and have done it for almost 4 and a half years now. Thanks for your concern though. :0)

only thin layers!
by: misty

I would be really careful if you are mixing paint, varnish and thinner... you must make sure it is totally mixed... or you are going to make a mess. I personally would not add that all together... as it seems to be a potenial problem with the color you will achive with the flesh tone. You are adding so much bulk to the paint... it is bound to add a thick layer and with matte you want thin layers... and with paint you want thin layers. If you make your layers too thick baby will look painted~ and then when you root the needle holes will be more apparent. Just a tip~

Here's a tip that works great for me! I take and mix my matte varnish, along with my skin foundation, which is my first layer, after I've done the veins. After mixing the two together, take a mop brush, dip it into the paint & varnish mix,( which I make into a watery consistency), and dab some onto a wedge sponge. Start pouncing all over your head and limbs. When I pounce the paint on, it's less likely to leave streaks, as would happen with a paint brush, giving a living skin appearance too, (pores). Good luck!

Matte Varnish
by: Anonymous

Have you tried matte varnish after painting your babies? You can start with a thin layer and add another if you need to. Also, make certain you thin you varnish with glaze thinner or you may get the matte varnish to thick and leave clumps. Hope this helps. It works wonders for me.
