How to fix a reborn doll's lips?

I purchased a reborn doll, but I don't like the lips. How can I remove the paint on just the lips and repaint them. Can I safely do this with a heat gun?

REALLY bad face paint job
by: Breeanna

I have just purchased a reborn that looked really nice on Ebay, only to find, now it is here in Austalia, and after paying a good bit of money, that it is truly the worst painted reborn I have ever seen. She is truly ghastly and when I took the rug away from her face, felt like someone has played a joke on me. She honestly looks like a 5 year old child has painted her! Is it possible to remove the paint on her face please? I could never display her. I just am at a loss really. I dont know quite what to do. Best wishe, Breeanna

I have a doll that I thought I put a little too much red on the lips. I was making a Spanish looking doll but I didn't mis the color..I used the Secrist all ready mixed. Anyway what I did was take a good short firm brush and dipped it in thinner and went over and over it and then I put a little thinning medium...then in the corner on one side it just wasn't going to budge.so I took a q tip and dipped in acetone and just dabbed at it over and over until it was light enough., then I put the thinning medium on it again Just kind of feeling my way through it thinking I could always redo and use the heat gun..and believe it or not..I didn't have to add any colorand it looks fine. Just finished it. If I need to I can dab a bit of paper glaze on it if it looks too dry later on.

Lips

Yes you can strip the lips and repaint, the heat gun is a lifesaver when you cannot bake, although I have baked after I put lashes in. I just makes sure I wet the hair since that heat can dry it out. Do not do it if you feel uncomfortable doing so though.
I recommend that you paint in light layers building the color gradually and heating with your gun after every layer.
Be very careful of getting too close to the lashes, hair and lips. It will singe the hair and lashes really fast if you get to close to it also the lips could get shiny if you hold it in one spot too long. What I have done is get a wet cloth and put it around the head and eyes that way I dont chance singeing them.
HTH and good luck
