Learning the art of reborn
by: Lisa

I am a self-taught reborn artist that is relatively new to the reborn world, but I am proud of the work I have done so far and will share my experience. I hope it helps! The way I learned was through research and asking questions. First you have to know what tools you want to use and what kind of work space you have. I use air dry paints, (see Baby Bethany Reborn in Baby of the Month). There are positives and negatives to using either air dry or genesis so that's why I say choose the tools that will work for you first so after you make your choice you'll know what videos to watch or how to modify a genesis painting video to work for air dry and vice-versa. Go to you tube, ebay, and any of the reborn sites like this one and listen to past experiences, watch the videos, and view pictures. Although each baby is unique, mistakes are universal and everybody makes them. Don't be afraid to take a technique and change it to work for you. Since I am still developing my technique, I have boo-boo baby parts that I test a color on before I put it on my final piece. Also, every vinyl takes up the paint differently so you have to be careful. Best thing to do is put a little dab on the baby's head (if you will be rooting the hair) or in a "hidden" spot. Most of all, choose a sculpt you like and have patience and fun!

REBORNING DOLLS
by: VIVIAN

SHERRI GAVE GOOD COMMENTS.
I started too with air dry, but put too many layers as you can't see anything. I kept hearing about 'many, many, many layers...so that's what I did. lol. I am also disabled and I am my mother's caretaker, so doing the dolls has been a God sent for me. I find that the easiest way to get started is go with www.bountifulbaby.com and they have a set of the genesis paints and they are mixed and you can download a free version of how to do the paints..like step one is the veins...2 is the flesh..three is the warm wash. Or you can pay 5.00 and they will send it to you in a folder. I decided to do that. Then I got some videos. Go to some of the forums like at Bountiful or/and Secrist etc. and sometimes they have videos that they will sell when they are done learning from them. Or even on ebay...Then I would get a small baby..like maybe l8 inch to start with. I'm sorry, but I doubt that I could do a 6 inch one..my vision is not good anymore. Check around for mohair. There is also videos on U tube or You tube..whatever it is and just put rooting reborns...color washes...and there are lots of videos that are free. Bountiful has a few for free showing the rooting methods. But please just know who you are buying from..like mohair or you might end up with grey icky hair. Also you can overpay as they are really charging a lot of money...but then again..I wouldn't be able to do that combing etc. Anyway..reborn forums..just ask them..everyone's nice. You can join some groups..like this one is REALLY good, and There is the E.R.A. Hope you have a wonderful time doing the reborning. It's just about the most fun I've had in a long time..but I'm warning you..it's so addictive and it's not real cheap. Some of the kit prices can run upward over 100.00. I would start with one of the l9.95 (Bountiful) kits..maybe with closed eyes. And make sure you look at the vinyl pieces your will be getting, because the photos can make some of the well...not so cute...look real cute. haha..you will find out..Have fun with it.

Learning to reborn dolls!
by: sherrikeller'Woo

I bought all the dvd's on how to reborn & my own technique came out of a combination of those. It is best probably to buy paints on ebay from someone who started & decided it was'nt for them. Mona lisa thinner is best with genesis paints & need good baking oven & thermometer so not to burn doll & a kit may be best with all supplies first. I did with air dry paints first from bloomers & bows & all instructions in package & this is a good way to get into genesis next as they teach you how to apply paint with patting motion & layer paints. I still use some of the air dry stuff with the genesis like the air dry 3d eyebrows as find it stays on better. Some people offer a class, but if you have a bit of art history & can try on your own. Lots of tutorals on line also. Hugs, Sherri
