How do I get started reborning a doll?

by Sharon Gregg
(Deltona, FL USA)

I just bought a small Berenguer at a garage sale for .25 cents. This is my first attempt at reborning and I am trying to keep the cost low since I'm not even sure if I want to pursue this hobby.

The doll is about 13 to 14 inches in length and came with a full vinyl body but I would much rather use a soft body. Do they make the doe suede that small in length? And how do I remove the factory paint on the head? And I measured the eyes from corner to corner and they are 3cm, what size is that, since the eyes seem to come in 16mm to 26mm? I really don't even know where to begin but I love all of the talented artistry that I have seen out there, and I wanted to see if I could do it especially when I saw this Berenguer for so cheap...

Should I keep the vinyl body?
by: Crystal

I bought the most precious Berjusa baby doll, soft vinyl and atomically correct body 20 inch baby...Now my question is should I stuff that body and keep it or go with a cloth body?I just hate the thought of not using the body...whats my options on this to make it feel and look real? Also I got the head off easy but having trouble with the limbs ,can someone tell me how to get them off.

Learning to reborn
by: debi

If the doll has grooves around her neck and limbs you can remove them from the plastic body and replace it with a cloth body. You can sew your own body I saw patterns in a book called,
Creative doll makeovers by Jan Tucker that I requested from the library.

Bountifulbaby.com and Secristdolls.com sites have info, videos and supplies.

I read and watched videos on the net to learn about painting. Im still learning.

Go slow and easy with the paint, I first practiced on an old discarded doll.

Have fun cant wait to see your doll when its done.
