works better... NEW
by: atthisforyears

no no no no no... my gosh.. all you need to do to get rid of the shine... is.... mix a very very tiny amount of titanium white into the thinner.. very very little and pounce very lightly over it.. set it with the heat gun.. it works like a charm.. not too much or you will ruin your doll....

Matt Varnish NEW
by: Suzs

I also used AirDry paints. I did have a problem with the shine. I went to Michael's & bought a bottle of Delta Ceramcoat Matt (exterior/Interior) Varnish. It's by the acrilic paints. I pounced it all over the body. It worked for me!!!

I have another problem, I have used the air paints. Made 4 beautiful babies. On 2 of them the paint is rubbing off. (her heal & her chin)I have asked B*B. Haven't heard back yet. Anybody know of a good sealer. I have tried the 303 protectent. It's not a sealer. The Matt varnish hasn't helped either.
Thanks
Suzs

Shiny baby NEW
by: Sherri Keller'Woo

The heat set Matte Varnish is good & if shine just on arms & legs pat some of it on with a sponge afer you've mashed & mixed it good & cover head with a towel & use your heat gun off & on as it cools down & it will take that shine off quickly. If on face have to be more careful becouse of hair, but can cover with towel top of face & hair & put parchment paper over it & won't catch your towel on fire. I have done this many times & works good.

Try the genisis matte NEW
by: Tenderspirit

I would also recommend that you use the genesis matte. But when you do use it, remember that it is thicker than normal genesis paint and it will require 3 times in the oven. You put it in each time for 8 minutes at 265 degrees. Make sure you have a good oven thermomiter as it is normally too much heat that makes the baby shiney in the first place. So you put her in for the 8 minutes, then let her cool down all the way, then do it again. A total of 3 times. If you do not totally cure the matte varnish it will also rub off then leaving your baby shiney again. I speak from experience here. Also I once used an acrylic paint inside (for the lavender layer) and that darn paint I believe bled through and made one of my babies get shiney. I tried the matte but to no avail as every time I heated him, the darn inside paint seemed to bleed through. I am not possitive this caused it, but it sure made sense to me as nothing was different from him except that and my babies do not get shiney normally.
I hope this helps.

oops NEW

I just read what I wrote and I just wanted to say..use the genesis matte varnist or even Secrest shine remover..thin..very thin layer and then put the doll in the oven with the hair in a wet towel or use the heat gun to set the matte varnish. I bought two large sizeed BnB Air dried matte varnish and it was a waste of money and time. Hope you can find something. The powder might work. Maybe rub it in. It's too bad that this happens ~~~baby becoming shiny after a lot of hard word and being so careful..ugh.

shiny NEW

I put baby powder in my stuffing & I noticed it looks dry a bit if gets on body. Might simply put a little baby powder on her; notice it reduces shine & very safe way to reduce shine & she will smell good too. If shine not too bad you know.

no nono no NEW

i'M TELLING YOU DO NOT USE THE AIR DRY MATTE VARNISH. i PUT IT ON ONE OF MY DOLLS AND TALK ABOUT SHINY....YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN SHINY UNTIL YOU SEE THAT. THEN YOU HAVE A BIGGER MESS THAN YOU STARTED WITH. I THINK CHANGING THE CLOTHES ETC. ACTUALLY POLISHES THE PAINT. IF I HAD TO DO SOMETHING..I WOULD REMOVE THE EYELASHES..THOSE ARE NO BIG DEAL TO CHANGE, BUT WHAT i HAVE DONE IS i WET THE HAIR AND WET ONE OF THES TURBIE TOWELS FOR THE HAIR. AND WRAP THE HAIR UP IN THAT..MAKE SURE YOU HAVE IT ALL..THEN PUT THE DOLL BACK IN THE OVEN. OH..I WOULD USE SOME PAINT THINNER TO GET THE PAPER GLAZE IF THAT'S ONE THE LIPS. IF YOU BOUGHT IT FROM SOMEONE, YOU CAN CHECK AND SEE IF THEY USED THE PAPER GLAZE OR USED GENESIS HEAT GLAZE. IT WILL MELT AND DRIP..SO TAKE THAT OFF IF YOUR CAN..BEFORE BAKING OR i HAVE PUT ON THE HEAT SET VARNISH AND THEN USE THE HEAT GUN..THAT WAY YOU CAN AIM IT AWAY FROM DELICATE AREAS. nOW THIS IS WHAT i HAVE DONE. cHECK AROUND AND SEE IF THERE'S A BETTER WAY FIRST..OKAY?

Matte sealer NEW
by: Anonymous

The only thing is the genesis is heat set & if it is a completed doll heat would ruin eyelashes & hair. I do think bloomers & bows may have a air dry matte sealer though; you might check with them. I have used the air dry nail glaze over the heat set paints & it does work fine. I would try that.
