Help! I put the eyes in my reborn doll before painting..

by Sharon
(FL)

I already put the eyes in and I haven't painted her yet is this going to be a major problem?

This is my VERY first attempt at reborning, and I got the doll at a yard sale (it's a berenguer). I was soooo excited when I got her new eyes in the mail, that I went ahead and put them in without thinking about the painting process.

Should I try to remove the eyes again and put them in after I am done painting or just leave them in? I don't want to ruin her in the process of doing this; I know that this is my first attempt, and I will probably make mistakes, but I'd like her to come out "decent" in the end. I did do my first "layer" of painting with the LDC air dry paints, and I got a little on the eyes but managed to get it off before the paint dried. What should I do?

Thanks

Thank you for all the advice, and for the words of encouragement. It's taken me almost a full year to work up the courage to attempt to do this WONDERFUL art-form, and try to make my own "baby". You are a VERY talented group of individuals whom I look to with admiration...keep it up!!! :)

lol sorry, I do remember reading it was air dry, but then forgot.(I have the memory capacity of a 2 year old most days)

From the sounds of it, you are doing fantastic for your first baby.
Dont forget to take lots of photos :)

Eyes in or eyes out?
by: Sherri Keller'Woo

I used air dry on my first reborn doll & that paint thinner is very mild & I would just leave them in & after each layer just gently wipe eye & romove any paint & then rinse with water drop solution & a q-tip.

My mistake
by: Anonymous

I guess I should've stated in my intial comment that I am using the LDC air dry paints, so I am sure that there is a big difference. So sorry for any confusion :(

The eyes
by: Billie

I agree with Sabriam, I would take them out if possible.
You would be making the process so much harder, trying to work around the eyes, and it will take a lot longer as well.
If they are bakeable eyes, then I would pop her in the oven for a while, and then carefully get them out while the vinyl is still soft.

Eyes

The realistic eyes & secrist eyes you can bake (I am painting a baby with eyes in now Secrist baby) Just wet your q-tip after painting go over eyes with thinner & then dry with other end of q-tip to make sure no paint on them.

my thoughts
by: Sabriam

I would take them out. It is going to be very difficult to paint around the eyes and the eye sockets without getting paint on the eyes. Just my thoughts :)

What brand eyes are they? Some brands will be fine in the oven, others will not.
