Realistic Reborn Dolls

Has anyone tried to reborn a more "generic" doll, such as those with painted eyes?

I have a whole bunch of old dolls, (my mother had three girls and two boys and never threw anything away) but most of them have generic features and painted eyes. I would like to know if anyone has had any success with retro-fitting eyes into these types of dolls, an example would be a Water Babies type and Magic Nursery babies . I don't expect that the dolls would be very convincing as true reborns, but I think it would be nice to give them a slightly new and more babyish look for my nieces. As they are, they appear kinda cartoonish to me and most of them have been barely played with because their were better looking dolls available at the time.
