Ed Wood - Accu Vista on Fake Babies

I have opened a 3D Scanning Studio in Springfield, MA. It is basically 3D photography but so much more. One of my services is to scan a child and create a replica in vinyl. A mold can be made from that scan. I have heard all of what you are saying about the reactions to this idea. I have literally been asked to leave a store selling childrens products when I showed them a reborn baby. In other situations I have had people surround me with ooh's and ahh's. In my case, the fact that the result looks just like a living child, makes the reaction even stronger.

When regular photography was in its infancy it received very similar reactions. Some hammed it up while others avoided it because they were afraid it might steal there soul. I am pioneering the concept of offering memories to be in 3D. I have 5 children, including twin boys that were under 3 pounds at birth. I would give anything to be able to see their tiny faces again. With each one, I would lightly rub my finger over their temple when they were crabby. Seemed to calm them down. If I could actually do that with a replica doll it would take a team of surgeons to remove the smile from my face.

I do understand and respect peoples feelings and don't try to change a persons mind. I had a young female reporter who did a story on me. She came twice. The second time she asked the cameraman to get a closeup. The baby was in a bassinette.
She didn't like the shadows and decided to pick the baby up. She too started rocking back and forth. She said "you know, I can see how somebody might like to have a doll made of their baby." My feeling is that some people will like it right away and others will warm up to the idea.

By the way, thanks for your great piece on fake babies. I think it is a good idea to discus it.
