Do you use Matte Varnish?

I tried using Matte Varnish on my reborn doll, and the doll is very rough. I use it to prevent her from being shiny.

The matte varnish can leave behind a texture if it's applied too thickly. If your reborn doll has a few shiny spots then you can apply a little to a sponge and work it in fairly well before doing a final bake. It is not necessary to do the entire doll unless you overbaked at some point which can result in a shiny baby.

Mix with paint thinner
by: Sabriam Garcia

If you mix the matte varnish with paint thinner (I use Mona Lisa odorless thinner), with a little more thinner than varnish. I've gotten that sandpaper texture when I used the matte with just a little thinner, but never when I've thinned it out more.

rough texture with matte varnish
by: Crystal

I had the same thing happen with the first one i did.
I was putting it on with out thinning the varnish.
I also learned if I soften up the varnish ,just take a palet knife and just kind of smoosh it down and work with it a bit then add some thinner and us a thin layer that helps so it comes out smoother.

Hope this helps.

help with shine
by: Anonymous

YOu can also apply the matte varnish with a Maxine's mop brush and sort of "pounce" the brush on the the "skin". this will create a texture, but not a rough, sandpaper-like texture like it does with the sponge.

Hope this helps,
