Choosing the right limbs for a reborn doll?

How to buy the right limbs and body for the size head you have? Or the other way around?

I have some limbs I bought that are soft vinyl 3/4 for 21 or 22 in body. They are bigger than anything I have done before . Now I need a head but not for sure what size?

I have a 14.5 in head and I'm not for sure of the size limbs and body I need. Yes, I am over my head...LOL.

I did start out with reborn doll kits that had most of it together. But I find older dolls need to have new limbs or bodies.

I bought a new born 18 or 19 in but When I got it I could tell someone like me had put the body on backwards and it looks too long and big for its small head. So I guess I am not the only one having this problem. LOL...Oh well I am having a good time. I just dont want to spend good money on the wrong things .

Thank you T. Childers in Ok.

You asked a question about the size of head and arms. I was a nursery nurse for many years and I can tell you that a 14.5 head would go on a 21-22 inch doll as that would be close to a 9 pound baby. Usually an 8 pound baby would be 13 3/4 to 14 inch head. And then 13 inch or so would be a pound less. So you can go a bit by that. Those little 18 inch babies look good in a 12 to 12 1/2 or so head. Hope this helps a little. Oh..now you might hear differently as some babies are late..so they have the length but have lost a bit of weight. But this is not the norm.

Sometimes I just don't like the arms and legs, so I look around for arms and legs that look better...to me. Now one thing I notice you have to be careful with the color of skin (vinyl) they have or you might have lots of boo boos etc.. So far all my kits use bodies that are hooked in the back (plastic and also you will see a seam in the back)One thing that nobody told me was that when you put the plastic ties into the openings for the arms, legs or/and head, ALWAYS go CLOCKWISE with those plsstic things or you will be screaming with the boo boos that you creat because of lack of knowledge. After so many months of cuting the material because of frustration...I was finally told by Jan Tucker to NEVER, NEVER CUT THE MATERIAL. She said to go clockwise with the plastic tie. WOW I wished I had knowned that little tidbit before mutilating many, many body slips. Oh MY. Now they go through very nicely. :o). If you need some advice there are many forums that you can visit and ask questions. They are a wealth of knowledge and lots of fun and nice people. Remember...have fun...(now I do. lol Aviva
